Niklas: Neon is a song we've been rehearsing for about three years and we're not tired of it yet. I think it's because it pinpoints the most important thing about Tam Tapir. We can't seem to avoid the feeling that life is like an impossible Rubik's cube. We still long for those moments when you think you understand something. When the gaps are being filled and the dream is complete. That's why we continue to play Neon, over and over again.
The song took shape as our former bass player quit the band. Our drummer, Sofia, went to work as a volunteer in Vietnam shortly thereafter. We were generally confused. We changed the name of the band about that time and Neon became the starting point for a slightly new direction. We left a lot of the anger behind and continued ahead with the power of the dream.
People in Sweden tend to think of Lena Philipsson's old hit "Dansa i neon" (Dancing in Neon) and that's not such a bad thing. The choruses of the two songs both have the same theme (lyrically). And both songs have a bit of a dramatic and sentimental touch to it. We've also heard of someone misinterpret the lyrics as "take me in neon". Kind of an interesting mistake to make, don't you think?
